Mission Statement
My name is Nic D Stephenson, a Father of 3, creative storyteller, Author/Illustrator and the founder of The Tough Talks Press.Like many parents, I’ve faced moments where my children asked questions that felt impossible to answer. Questions about loss, fear, and the many complicated emotions that come with growing up.
I started writing children’s books because I realized something important: children are capable of understanding difficult things when we speak to them honestly and with compassion.Too often we try to shield children from life’s hardest realities, but what they really need is guidance through them.My goal with every story published through The Tough Talks Press is to help families have the conversations that matter most, the ones that shape how children understand love, loss, empathy, life and resilience.These books are written to create moments between parents and children where difficult topics can be explored safely, gently, and with care.But most of all, together.
